Twig World is looking to recruit a highly skilled and motivated Python developer to build and maintain our portfolio of award-winning educational online products.
The successful candidate will be joining a small, collaborative team in our Glasgow office which is responsible for the end-to-end development of Twig’s online platform. You will be expected not only to write code, but also to provide ideas and expertise to shape new and existing products.
The Tech Team is a tight-knit, cross discipline team of people who are passionate about building great online products. Everyone gets involved in steering what we do, providing ideas for future development and opinions on which technologies we use. The ideal candidate will bring energy, expertise, creativity and innovation to the team, as well as a real pride in their work. A good sense of humour is essential.
As a developer you will:
- Help build and maintain the Twig online products and continually improve the service we provide to schools
- Work primarily on the server in Python and Django, but be happy to pitch in all over the stack
- Embrace continuous integration and ship code everyday
- Communicate effectively with other departments and customers to understand product requirements
- Take ownership and responsibility for your work and never be satisfied until it is the best it can be
- Explore new ideas and technologies to keep Twig at the forefront of new developments in online education
As a developer you are:
- An expert in Python and you have shipped at least one Python application in the last six months.
- Familiar with Django or another similar MVT or MVC framework
- Knowledgeable about Web Standards and up-to-date with HTML5 and its new APIs
- Unafraid to tackle client-side scripting when required
- Always improving your skill-set and keeping up to date with modern technology
- Passionate about building awesome applications
You will get bonus points if you:
- Have experience with a client-side framework such as Backbone
- Don’t cower at the mention of Gunicorn, mod_wsgi or Shibboleth
- Want to make a real difference in online education
Our core product "Twig" is an award-winning online educational resource with thousands of tailor-made, short films that bring subjects to life. We use outstanding film footage, stunning images and written text to create engagement and wonder which we use to deliver deep-seated understanding of the curriculum.
The work of the technical team allows our content to be seen by thousands of learners in schools and at home across six different continents. We have partners and agents selling our content in six different languages in a dozen different countries, and that number is set to rise in 2013.
This is a full-time, permanent position position with real potential for professional development. Starting salary £28k+ p.a depending on experience.
