#1: Job Search Plan: Create a schedule & goals

Schedule

8-10 Code!

10-12 Job search

Lunch, go to the gym

2-4 Outreach/meetings/applications

4 Spike! Check out something new or refine portfolio.

6- Meetups. Go to them. They're important.

Backwards planning

I want to have a job offer by July 20th.

That's probably going to require sending out 3-4 applications a day, and spending an hour a day focusing on technical interview questions. I think going to as many meet-ups as possible and building my portfolio will be crucial. I also want to improve my VanillaJS skills.

I find the biggest barriers to my job search are not feeling qualified and not being sure of what I want. So I'll just apply for anything that seems interesting, and spending time researching the tech companies around here so that I have a better sense of what is available.

#2: Longterm Career Plan

I'm not totally sure where I want to go in my career. Right now, my biggest passions is electronic music, and I would love to be in that industry. So that is a major driving force. Beyond that, I can see myself in something like journalism or government... Something a little more socially conscious. But right now I want to be part of the music industry. I think I might need a bit of time as a junior somewhere less than ideal to break into that.

It's June, 2022. I've been a dev for 5 years. I've been working for major electronic music companies for 3-4 years. I'm out of debt and financially stable. I did a lot of networking, and worked in some places that I wasn't necessarily crazy about, but it allowed me to grow and make the transition I wanted quickly.

I will step outside my comfort zone. I will learn new technologies, and work in places that are challenging and uncomfortable.

I'm not sure what level of responsibility I want. For the short term, I want to work somewhere I can develop a bit more. If I have an idea I am passionate about, I would be into pursuing it as a startup, but I don't right now. In my first year as a developer, I want to feel quick, proficient, and comfortable adapting to new or unfamiliar technologies.

Option #1: Side Hustle Plan

I have a few ideas for side-hustles. One is a site rebuild for a wildfire-modeling company, another is a site for the military my friend is involved in, and another is a non-profit my friend just started.

Option #2: Open Source Project

I kind of want to answer StackOverflow questions for funsies. I'm always curious who is responding to them.
