This Privacy Policy describes how North Star ("we," "us," or "our") handles your information when you use our Wear OS application.
North Star uses the microphone on your Wear OS device exclusively for the Voice Destination Input feature.
- Purpose: To allow you to set navigation destinations by speaking.
- Data Handling: Audio data is processed locally on the device and/or via the Google Speech Recognition service to convert speech into text. We do not record, store, or transmit your audio data to our own servers.
The app requires access to your device's location to function as a compass and navigation tool.
- Purpose: To calculate your heading, display your position on the compass dial, and provide distance/bearing to your selected destination.
- Data Handling: Location data is processed locally on the device. We do not collect or share your location history with any third parties.
The app uses the Magnetometer, Accelerometer, and Gyroscope sensors to provide compass functionality. This data is processed in real-time and is not stored or transmitted.
North Star uses Jetpack DataStore to store your app preferences (e.g., units of measurement, visible elements) and your current destination. This data stays on your device and is not synchronized with any external servers.
North Star may use Google Play Services for:
- Speech Recognition: Converting your voice to text.
- Geocoding: Converting spoken place names into geographic coordinates.
- Maps: Providing navigation intents to Google Maps. These services are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.
Our app does not address anyone under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children.
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page.
