The files go to:

  • /usr/share/alsa/cards/AppleT2.conf
  • /usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/apple-t2.conf
  • /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/91-pulseaudio-custom.rules
  • $HOME/.config/pulse/default.pa
  • $HOME/.config/pulse/daemon.conf

The PulseAudio configuration in the home-directory is just an example. What I did was to add the following:

default.pa:

daemon.conf:

I added every files but I can’t seems to get the sound working on my MBP16.

EDIT:
I got it working by placing the provided default.pa and daemon.conf into /etc/pulse and adding realtime-scheduling = no to daemon.conf

Some recent updates to ALSA seem to have changed where it looks for apple-t2.conf, I resolved that by copying it to the new directory:

sudo cp '/usr/share/pulseaudio/alsa-mixer/profile-sets/apple-t2.conf' '/usr/share/alsa-card-profile/mixer/profile-sets/apple-t2.conf'

Here's a reddit post I found about this change
And here's the errors pulseaudio was giving before I moved apple-t2.conf:

I added every files but I can’t seems to get the sound working on my MBP16.

I tried this too after having no success and there is now sound but it's not very good quality, sound is coming mostly from the front and not all speakers are being utilised.

Can somebody please help me in porting this to Pipewire? As it's default in F34 but does not work properly (Center and Right channels are swapped). Issue: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues/1417

BTW; channels swap issue is not only related to Pipewire; I also have right and center channels swapped on Pulseaudio. But there it seems fixable by adding these to config:

realtime-scheduling = yes
realtime-priority = 5

And then rebooting (sometimes Pulseaudio also needs to be started/restarted several times and audio settings turned in gnome audio back and forth).

For pipewire on arch I had to make the change described here to make it use the profile. https://wiki.t2linux.org/guides/audio-config/#using-pipewire-instead-of-pulseaudio

one file's location changes with pipewire on arch, but that might be because of how it's packaged /usr/share/alsa-card-profile/mixer/profile-sets/apple-t2.conf

Hi there, just today I was able to install Fedora with KDE on my MacBook 16. I followed your commands and now I have an Apple Audio Device Multichannel device. however:

  • Trying the "Subwoofer" in the settings freezes the settings
  • Apart from Front Left and Rear Left the other outputs are mangled so e.g Front Right is Front Left, Rear Right is actually Front Right etc.
  • The Input doesnt work at all ...
    I am sorry for not directly including logs or stuff but I am new to this stuff so any help apart from an RTFM would be greatly appreciated :)

built-in microphone volume super low? try this

  • pacmd list-sources
  • find name of source with description "Apple Audio Device Built-in Mic"
    • for me the name is alsa_input.pci-0000_04_00.3.builtin-mic
  • pacmd set-source-volume [source-name] $(( 35565 * 3 ))
    • where [source-name] is the source found before
    • 35565 * 3 = 300% volume
