Position: Ruby on Rails Developer(s)
The District Management Council is seeking skilled and passionate Rails developers
to help us shape the future of public education.
We develop innovative web applications to meet the most pressing challenges
facing public school districts today. Public schools across America are using
our software and services to increase the effectiveness of Special Education
programs, Teacher Evaluation programs, and for overall management and
planning.
In addition to the applications we build, we also have a significant
consulting business. Our consultants are bright, hard-working people from top
schools who are dedicated to our mission of improving public education. Our
Executive Team has national visibility and is helping to move forward the
national debate on how to improve public education.
We're serious about changing the future of public education in this
country. If you can connect to this mission and want to develop leading-edge
Rails applications, we want to talk to you.
Our ideal candidate is an intelligent, pragmatic generalist looking to solve
real-world problems. We believe firmly in mutual respect, growing and learning
as a team. Our process includes code reviews, pair programming and TDD.
We have multiple positions for developers with a range of experience levels.
We may relax our qualifications for the right candidate if we believe they can
learn quickly and they have a passion for our mission.
Required qualifications:
* Professional Development experience (or potentially a recent degree with
experience using Ruby on Rails)
* Proven ability to work on a team
* Some level of skill with Javascript/Coffeescript and JQuery
* Experience with Postgres and/or MySQL (or other SQL databases)
* Experience with Git and an account on Github
* Experience with TDD (we use RSpec, Capybara and Cucumber)
* A demonstrated passion for software development

About Us:
The District Management Council is a small, fast-growing company working hard
to improve public education. We arm our members with insight and facts so they
may better serve their students in the face of (sometimes) great adversity.
Although our software division is relatively new, we are part of a larger,
established company; this allows us to enjoy the agility of a startup combined
with the stability of a 7-year-old company.
Why Join Us?
Feel good. Our work improves the education of students that most rely on it.
Plus, we're a stable, profitable company with a track record of success and
bright future.
Do good work. We use up-to-date technologies and tools for our work, including the
latest versions of Ruby on Rails, git, Coffeescript/HAML/SASS, etc. We will also
pay for training courses if we believe it will help you keep your skills up to date.
Enjoy your job. Our offices have an open floor plan, tons of natural light,
and are located just a block from the Boston Common. We work hard, but fire
alarms and overtime are rare. We have a Jura coffee machine and a fridge full
of snacks.
