Kevin Bedell - Background
Kevin Bedell, Director of Engineering
Kevin brings a wealth of experience in the development, deployment and ongoing maintenance of software applications. In addition, he also brings deep expertise in managing the development process and in building and managing engineering teams.
As Director of Engineering, Kevin carries responsibility for delivery and maintenance of the applications that form the core of DMC's Technology Solutions offerings. To this end he works to staff and manage DMC's engineering team, to ensure that DMC's products and processes follow industry best-practices, and to ensure the engineering culture at DMC is one that pursues excellence and is driven by real customer needs.
In addition, Kevin is a significant contributor to DMC's Technology Solutions products drawing on his 20+ years of software development expertise.
DMC Project Experiences Include:
- Significant Enhancements to the dmPlanning and dmStaffing products.
- Support of dmPlanning implementations for multiple DMC clients.
- Efforts to convert prototype applications to production-quality products capable of supporting 100's of concurrent users.
Other Professional Experiences Include:
- 10 years experience in Technical Leadership and Engineering Management roles.
- Early employee at multiple technology startups in the Boston area including Black Duck Software, Backchannel Media, CourseAdvisor and CMGI.
- Former Editor-in-Chief of LinuxWorld Magazine, a widely-read print magazine.
- Founder and Principal Consultant at Boston Agile Partners, a Boston-based technology consulting firm.
Publications and Speaking
- Over 100 articles published in-print and on-line, including interviews with technology luminaries such as Tim O'Reilly, David Heinemeier Hansson (creator of the Ruby on Rails framework), Richard Stallman, Eben Moglen, Eric Raymond and others.
- Co-Author "Struts Kickstart", (Pearson Education, ISBN-13: 978-0672324727). This popular book on the widely-used Struts application development framework sold over 10,000 copies and was translated in to French, German and Chinese.
