Cover letter.

Friends,

Two years ago I chose to focus my major on the study of biocomputation. My interests then lay and still remain at the intersection of our data and self-representation. Dissapointed with the progress being made at the clinical end of genomics, I opted to forgo promising academic research to join what I believed was an equally promising health prediction startup. Without a clear plan for how I intended to participate, I nevertheless sensed an urgent creative potential.

What began as a summer internship with an undefined role quickly evolved into an unexpected, catalytic journey. In the intervening period, harboring an acquisition and graduation, I've stumbled upon an inestimable quantity of insights. From agile development, organizational structure, and interface design to consumer behavior, mobile health, and wearable computing, I've immersed myself in the context of my work and wholeheartedly embraced software engineering as a craft and profession. Having made significant progress, I'm still keenly aware of how much further I wish to go in my career as an engineer and professional in this industry.

Following a separation and brief period of reflection, I am ready to move forward with finding a company whose values, efforts, and culture align with my own.

Although I’ve developed a suite of hard skills, I believe my core value as a team member and engineer lies beyond these–foremost in my ability to think broadly, creatively, and precisely in a diversity of problem domains and secondly in my experience working and leading effectively within teams of all sizes.

While I am eager to advance my knowledge, I most look forward to joining an office where I can aide in the construction of inspiring and empowering products alongside those who take immense pride in their work.

My hope is we might build something together.

Sincerely,

Juan-Carlos Foust
