##National

  • President: Jill Stein or Gloria La Riva. We're in a solidly Democratic party state so this is an opportunity to build a pluralistic democracy by voting 3rd party. La Riva's running mate is Dennis Banks.
  • Congress: Adrienne Edwards NOT Xavier Becerra. He has stood by while mass deportations have happened and, in spite of the leadership role he has, has not affirmatively advocated for undocumented folks or dotaken a progressibe role
  • Senate: Kamala Harris. Though she isn't progressive, she appears to be able to listen to different opinions.

##Statewide

  • State Assembly (Boyle Heights): Sandra Mendoza. Miguel Santiago could have shown leadership in many areas and instead has played it safe.

##Propositions

  • 51: No. I believe we should fund schools with taxes, not bonds that end up benefiting the bankers more than schools.
  • 52: YES. Until we have single payer insurance, for profit providers should be asked to carry a share of this burden.
  • 54: No. I'm not sure the issue is one of transparency but rather engagement. I fear this would help government IT contractors obtain a bonanza.
  • 55: YES. We should ask wealthy members to fund education at a higher level
  • 56: No. I think "vice taxes" are self-defeating and moralistic exercises. Also, think about where the tabacco tax goes, it goes to a admin heavy and already well resourced entity.
  • 57: YES. It disrupts the current practice of putting minors into adult court and it opens the door to earlier parole hearings
  • 58: YES. Bilingual education is neccessary for a pluralistic society
  • 59: No. While I'm against Citizens United, it isn't clear to me how this doesn't set-up Cali to challenge federal law and bear the cost of that fight...and potentially lose.
  • 60: No. It encourages harassment of folks in the sex industry. It's opposed by most HIV advocacy groups and I'm going to side with the. Also, like the cigarette tax, it's a moralistic piece of legislation.
  • 61: YES. Setting the VA rate for state purchased drugs is a sane step to cut back on big pharma's profits to a certain degree.
  • 62: YES. I don't like folks being in cages but I also don't like the state having legal authority to take the life of folks jammed up by the crimimal legal system
  • 63: No. This presents an opportunity for already heavily racialized law enforcement to jam up traditionally targeted communities. We have to do someting about guns, this isn't it.
  • 64: YES. Legalize it. As it it, folks are using marijuana but enforcement tends to target low-income & PoC communities
  • 65: YES. We have to cut back on plastic bags.
  • 66: No. Given how resource poor our legal system is for low-income folks, folks locked up with a death penalty should have more, not fewer opportunities to challenge their sentence.
  • 67: No. While we need to cut back on plastic bags, it's often low-income non-english native speaking communities that shouldn't be tagged by forced sale. A vendor should be able to decide if they provide free paper or reusable bags. I'm not sure this encourages this.

##Local

  • A: YES. Replaces fundding for parks, playgrounds, senior centers, etc
  • M: NO NO NO. Privileges rail over buses which has racists implications
  • CC: No. Again, not a fan of bond driven improvements even though veterans, and any community college student benefits from this.
  • JJJ: Yes. Developers aren't going to factor in affordable housing unless they're required to. The local hiring provision is less sexy since enforcement often fails but it's good too.
  • HHH: Yes. The housing crisis needs to be addressed. HHH would force us to do the humane thing: build permantent housing for foster youth, families, and seniors. I'm concerned about single and queer folks but, regardless, this is a good step.
  • RRR: No. Not a fan of DWP reform because we need a new municipal utility rather than these piecemeal reforms
  • SSS: No. Having a better retirement system for police and firefighters isn't fair to all other public employees. Like teachers, police & firefighters should be in CalPERS
