My Late Grandmother's (Grandmama, Evelyn Ball) Recipe
As I make it, of course, since my father and brother make it significantly different.
Ingredients
- Cornbread (at least 2 boxes???)
- Pepperidge farm flavored bread crumbs. Not sure the size or flavor... Thanksgiving flavor, I guess. Maybe it is Italian?
- Couple or so Onions
- Couple or so stalks of celery
- Dried Apples (part of a bag, season to taste)
- Dried Cranberries (same as apples)
- 3 eggs (maybe 4, I can't remember)
- 2 big boxes of chicken broth (prolly only use 1, though)
- At least 1lb of sausage (I like more of this... Like Jimmy Deans tube sausage)
- Bunch o'seasonings like sage, italian seasoning, seasonal salt, garlic powder, onion powder ( I add onions so don't use this)
Prepare Before Hand:
- Cook 2 or so packages of cornbread. I like to err on the side of more than less on this.
- Cook the sausage in a pan.
Cut up the following vegetables/fruits (if not already cut up)
- A bunch o'Onions
- A bunch o'Celery
- A bunch o'Apples (dried and not as much as 1 & 2) (Optional)
- A bunch o'dried cranberries (not as much as 1 & 2)(Optional)
Now to combine it all into a big 'ol bowl.
- Combine the eggs and and one full box of chicken broth together
- Add all spices. I don't add much sage. Really just a pinch. Add couple of teaspoons of Italian seasoning, a pinch of seasonal salt, a teaspoon of garlic power. Add these spices to the liquid. Stir. I honestly don't know how much I put in of these things. I just swag it.
