Description | |
Fake Love ( www.fakelove.tv ) is an award winning integrated experience design agency in DUMBO/Brooklyn. We make art projects and custom projects for commercial brands. We rarely do the same kind of project twice, and are always exploring new ways of interaction and display with things like analog sculptures, large scale interactive projections, and intimate installations. Our focus is on the interactions and the human experience of the things we make – shiny new tech isn’t so important.
[Fake Love was also recently acquired by the New York Times - we are going to keep doing all the cool stuff we have always done, but have some great support behind us as well. If you're curious about benefits and stuff, just let us know.]

We are looking for the next full-time member of our tech department. The ideal candidate is senior level media programmer with experience with long-running installations and events, who can also lead projects (teams) from concept to install. Professional experience in this area is required. You will be reporting to the Director of Technology, but it’s a small team that relies on intimate collaboration and self direction. We are looking to hire ASAP. Local to NYC is easier, but let’s talk if you’re looking to relocate. We will be looking for some more junior roles eventually, but this call is primarily for more experienced people.
Fake Love is highly diverse in many ways, including gender, ethnicity and background. We take the idea of ‘equal opportunity’ seriously and encourage a wide range of people to apply if you have the appropriate experience. There are a lot of requirements here, but no one fits these exactly - when in doubt, just reach out and ask. If you're excited about the work we do and want to help us out, that's huge.
**********************************
General skills we’re looking for:
- 3+ years experience with professional software development, managing teams and doing on-site installation work – both professional client work and personal work.
- Clear Communication and Planning skills
- Willingness to take risks and approach problems with unusual solutions
- Ability to work quickly and come up with flexible solutions when projects change
- Ability to stay calm and focused in high pressure event and installation environments
- Ability to be client facing – comfortable talking to clients
- Artistic background and holds a strong point of view on art
**************************
Tech skill requirements:
- 3-5 years experience with C++ and one or more creative coding frameworks: openFrameworks or Cinder
- Everyone has different levels of expertise with these frameworks, but a combination of graphics, computer vision, hardware and software interfacing, networking would be helpful. Your portfolio should reflect these skills
- An interest in helping us build a coherent process for the lifecycle of various projects (planning, development, deployment, maintenance)
**************************
Bonus Tech Skills that may be a bit more specialized, but you should have experience with at least one or two of these. By no means are we looking for ALL of these, that would be crazy - just some loose knowledge of some and maybe a focused speciality in one:
- Game Engine experience - Unity, Unreal, VR, AR
- Experience with other creative coding environments/tools: Touch Designer, Max/MSP, etc etc.
- iOS/Android development experience (even just a little bit)
- General automation chops: Using Python, Bash, and other tools for running automated tasks
- Some familiarity with backend/frontend web technologies/network protocols and having these talk to other applications (OSC, Node, Various flavors of SQL, Websockets, REST API’s, etc)
- Physical Computing skills - you’ve seen a few Arduinos/rPi’s in your day
