gameinfo.gi is a configuration file for Source games, which the game loads on startup. It contains blocks of configs in the form <name> "<value>", split into multiple categories/sections by {}.
If you get an error message like FATAL ERROR: ... <something>.xml that means a old/outdated/broken mod is responsible.
Solutions:
- Delete the mods: go to
steamapps/common/Deadlock/game/citadel/addonsand delete all its contents. - Disable mod loading: open
steamapps/common/Deadlock/game/citadel/gameinfo.giand search for"citadel/addons". add//in front of that line (in front ofGame):// Game "citadel/addons". Then make sure to start through steam, not a mod manager.- this allows you to keep your mod folder intact
When editing gameinfo.gi you should only do the following 2 things, to be safe:
- Change the value of a config, for example
panorama_max_fps "30"topanorama_max_fps "60" - Add and remove
//from lines only if its followed by a config likepanorama_max_fps "30"- Do not remove
//from lines which contain a sentence or note - Do not remove
//from behind a config
- Do not remove
If you follow these rules you can still cause issues, but at least those issues will be related to the configs you changed, not the game failing to read the file.
This is very likely caused by starting through Deadlock Mod Manager, which checks your gameinfo.gi for some pretty basic things and replaces it if that check fails. Its recommended you manage mods manually, you basically just place the mod files in steamapps/common/Deadlock/game/citadel/addons after extracting them from the zip/7z, and make sure Game "citadel/addons" does not have a // before it.
