Example 1

For reading the external Local JSON file (data.json) using java script

data = '[{"name" : "Ashwin", "age" : "20"},{"name" : "Abhinandan", "age" : "20"}]';

2.Get the Object from the json file

Example 2

Depending on your browser, you may access to your local files. But this may not work for all the users of your app.

To do this, you can try the instructions from here: http://www.html5rocks.com/en/tutorials/file/dndfiles/

Once your file is loaded, you can retrieve the data using:

Example 1 does not work :/

Yes because it's wrong. It's not a json file. It's a hardcoded javascript array and should be put inside a javascript file. You cannot put quotes in a json file. It doesn't pass validation. It will never run.

Hey it's urgent, I'm stuck on this. If I'm seeing it correct, data.js & second.js are different files. I have a json file in my directory, I want to load that into a js file and work with it. How do I achieve that. I did fs.readFile(...) but that returns null

There are several ways you can fetch data from a JSON file. One easy way with ajax :
