okay let's jump into the main topic; descriptive and recount text. what are those, eh?
descriptive text is a text that describes a particular object in detail. in a nutshell, descriptive text is a place for you to describe objects. you can describe the size of it, how it smell, what shape does it have, how does it look, and so on.
i think most of you already know this based on definition above, but for the sake of making this thing comprehensive, i will explain here. the purpose of descriptive text is, well,... you guessed it: to describe, represent, or to express something.
this is where people struggle, i think.
-
adjective adjective is always be used while we explain things; like
big
,small
,tall
,tiny
, you name it. a little example could be:- My teacher is great. She's smart and discipline. She always taught us new things to us!
-
adverb of frequency a adverb that's used to show how frequent some actions are done. in this type of text, we can use this to describe object's behavior.
pretty much, yeah... there's nothing left to explain here. however, you can learn more here, and here.
recount text is a kind of text which retells events or experiences in the past. it's like descriptive text, but you have to explain what happened in the past.
there are some purposes that this text has, there are:
-
give information to the readers
recount text can be used as a way to give information about events or person's experience in the past. this can be a blog post, journal, personal experience, or a event report. -
entertaining readers
like other texts, recount text functions as entertainment to readers. this kind of text is pretty much common for writers to tell something fun :) -
reflecting some things
in some cases, recount text can be used as a media to reflect or analyze an event or specific experience. this is why diary or journal is one of them. -
doocumenting important events
besides that, you can record and observe those moments using recound text. -
learning history
in educational context, recount text tends to be used to learn and understand historical events.
it is quite clear if you learn from previous material. but if you haven't, orientation introduces things such as characters, locations, time of the event, etc. through orientation, readers can understand series of occurring events.
in this section, authors will write series of eventsduh. that they have experienced. usually, the authors express their personal remarks on the events. example:
on my first day on school, i sat down in the front row seat on the classroom. everyone in the class asked my name, where i came from, and why i chose this school. people on there were cool to me, as if they were my friends in the past. during break time, i went to canteen and saw some things that interested me. notably, i was interested in instant noodle and some snacks. after break time, i went to the classroom again to have some lesson.
le epico conclusion
authors will summarize the whole story and tell you which ending they got, it can be happy, sad, anything basically. authors would tell some impression and moral value to the readers if any.
recount text has some following language features, it is:
- using simple present tense,
- using specific participant (something specific that is unique, eg. Gubeng Station, Bungurasih Bus Station, etc.)
- using personal participant (I, my friends, my brother, etc.)
- using action verb,
- using linking verb,
- using chronological connection/sequence connective,
- using conjuntion,
- using adverbs,
- using time connectives,
