@dlech: Sorry for not responding earlier - it looks like github doesn't send notifications for gist comments (maybe a name mention will help).
Following the split of data items into "system" and "usage" buckets, I've re-worded that whole section anyway. I want it to be clear what types of usage information will be collected but definitely want to avoid being too prescriptive - it won't benefit anyone if I have to announce a new privacy policy because I add usage tracking to a new UI element!
