Everything I do in this guide is mostly taken from the Arch Wiki, and is for Arch Linux, obviously this can probably be applied to other Linux distributions especially Arch based ones, this guide is for people who want a laptop with similar effciency they had on Windows or MacOS. I hate the excuse of having to compromise on Linux to have good battery or thermals on laptops.

Please think of this guide as more of a starting point, if you're serious about fully optimizing your laptop research your laptop and the hardware inside of it as that can get you even further down the rabbit hole.

This guide assumes you have a relatively modern laptop with at least an SSD from the factory, if you don't, don't worry you can still probably follow this guide perfectly, if you have a 32-b

Reolink API Examples

I had some difficulty finding simple examples of how to use the Reolink API and ended up digging through some python implementations to figure out how it works.

The official documentation is available at https://bit.ly/3rWxG6e but it is a bit lacking, and the API is somewhat weird, which makes it difficult. You should still look at it though, as it lets you know what commands are available through the API.

The main weirdness is that even if you are sending one command at a time, the payload has to be an array of objects and the response is always an array of objects. Also, you have to pass the command both as a URL parameter and in the payload.

Included here are a small(ish) bash script (also requires jq) for running API commands against Reolink cameras or NVRs.

Shortcut and On/Off switches

Remove back cover with philips scredriver and instert provided battery
In home assistant select a ZHA always-on zigbee device - such as a powered light or signal repeater in the same room the shortcut button will end up in
Select "Add device via this device"
Press the pair button 4 times on the back of the shortcut button
Wait
If using an On/Off switch and you want to bind it to a bulb for non-controller dependant control (i.e will work if home assistant is down)
