Build and run k3os using packer, vagrant and virtualbox

Packer and Vagrant resources to build k3os in VirtualBox

Requirements

  • packer
  • vagrant
  • virtualbox

Build and Run

  1. packer build k3os.json
  2. vagrant up
  3. vagrant ssh k3s is running in the provisioned machine

Cleanup

  1. vagrant halt
  2. vagrant destroy
  3. rm packer_virtualbox-iso_virtualbox.box

Known issues

  • On a slow network, the packer build fails due to a timing issue downloading the cloud-config.yml
    • This can be remedied by adding a <waitXX> command like this
...
    "boot_command": ["rancher","<enter>","wget --no-check-certificate https://raw.githubusercontent.com/wjimenez5271/k3os-vagrant/master/cloud-config.yml","<enter>","<wait20>","sudo os-config","<enter>","1","<enter>","y","<enter>","/home/rancher/cloud-config.yml","<enter>","Y","<enter>"],

# Provider-specific configuration so you can fine-tune various
# backing providers for Vagrant. These expose provider-specific options.
# Example for VirtualBox:
#
# config.vm.provider "virtualbox" do |vb|
# # Display the VirtualBox GUI when booting the machine
# vb.gui = true
#
# # Customize the amount of memory on the VM:
# vb.memory = "1024"
# end
#
# View the documentation for the provider you are using for more
# information on available options.
# Enable provisioning with a shell script. Additional provisioners such as
# Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Salt, and Docker are also available. Please see the
# documentation for more information about their specific syntax and use.
# config.vm.provision "shell", inline: <<-SHELL
# apt-get update
# apt-get install -y apache2
# SHELL
