Stepshot does not collect, transmit, or sell any user data.
- Everything stays on your device. Guides you record — screenshots, step text, and annotations — are written as plain files to a folder you choose on your own computer. Nothing is uploaded.
- No servers, no account. Stepshot has no backend. It never sends your data to us or to any third party. There is no sign-up or login.
- No analytics or telemetry. Stepshot makes no network requests for tracking, metrics, or advertising.
- On-device AI only. The step text is drafted by the browser's built-in, on-device AI model. The content of your captures is not sent to any external AI service.
- Input values are never stored. When you type during a recording, Stepshot records only a sanitized label of the action (for example, "Type into Email"), never the actual text you entered.
Stepshot requests browser permissions solely to capture the tab you are recording and to save the resulting guide to your local files. These permissions are not used to collect or share data. See the extension's Chrome Web Store listing for a per-permission explanation.
