LFS Storage

These instructions describe how to setup a common storage area for Git LFS objects and move existing objects mantid 3rd party objects there.

Prerequisites

This requires at least version 2.3.0 of git-lfs. Start a bash shell and run git lfs env and check that the version of Git LFS reported is higher than this. If it is not then download and install a newer version of Git from https://git-scm.com/download/win and ensure you check the Git LFS option on install.

Setup and Migration

  • Create a directory to hold the LFS objects, e.g. C:/Users/gigm/code/git-lfs-storage (note that this could get quite large)
  • Run git config --global lfs.storage C:/Users/gigm/code/git-lfs-storage (uses forward slashs for directory separators)
  • Verify the setup with git lfs env. It should list the above directory as the LocalMediaDir
  • Pick one of your mantid clones and move (cut) the 2 or 3 subdirectories of MANTID_GIT_ROOT/external/src/ThirdParty/.git/lfs to the above directory
  • For the rest of your clones just delete the external/src/ThirdParty/.git/lfs directory.
