I host a site with a map of graffiti walls around the world. As a service to the users, I plan to display a google streetview when available.

  1. Download the spreadsheet at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1CZzndwAM6TjyixfbDn95zfkgF-ZIj-T_a4PGTlMDY78/pub?output=xlsx

  2. Open each link in the browser

  3. Read the title and description, so you know what you will be looking for

  4. Zoom in on the map and drag and drop the orange streetview figure to a nearby street

  5. Click the google logo on the left bottom corner of the map

  6. Look around on streetview and find a nearby wall covered with graffiti

  7. If google streetview is not available 1. Write "no streetview" into the spreadsheet next to the corresponding URL

  8. If you see a graffiti wall 1. Navigate around so you have a good view of it, center the graffiti wall horizontally and vertically on the screen 2. Paste the browser URL of the streetview into the spreadsheet next to the corresponding URL

  9. If you don't see a graffiti wall 1. Optional: Spend minutes searching for one. Try moving up and down the street for ~100m, looking in all directions 2. Optional: Go back to the link from the list to see if there is another nearby street, try another angle 3. If you find a graffiti wall, proceed with ii. 4. Otherwise, write "not found" into the spreadsheet next to the corresponding URL

  1. Open link from the list http://legal-walls.net/walls/300

  2. Open the map on google where you dropped the streetview marker https://www.google.com/maps/@55.9756324,12.0186292,0a,41.4y,71.94h,89.92t/data=!3m4!1e1!3m2!1sxHWyoKDqPNJIkfihWEWo8g!2e0?source=apiv3

  3. The title mentioned a tunnel, so move down the street to the right and find graffiti on the tunnel https://www.google.com/maps/@55.9754019,12.0187573,3a,75y,43.77h,78.66t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1staRt-ssYsWcEHu0bBlmrHg!2e0!7i13312!8i6656

What to expect

  1. Most of the time the marker is not fully exact, but the wall is findable nearby
  2. Sometimes the marker is way off and you will not be able to find a graffiti wall
  3. In some regions, streetview is not available at all
  4. It is possible to find a wall with graffiti on streetview in about 50% of the cases
