Tasting Notes from 321 Club Gatherings

Meeting 3: Going Deeper on Rye

This month we decided to go deeper on rye as we have enjoyed the Bulleit Rye over the last few months.

Bulleit Rye

  • MCW: Smooth
  • Rami: Warm and Fruity
  • Jared: Caramel, vanilla finish, medium burn
  • Sijie: Less burn than the non rye options we've had
  • Drew: Smooth
  • DJ: Slight numbing, with a burn than comes back. This is where the vanilla comes through
  • Mike: Rich sweetness

Old Overhault: Straight Rye Whiskey

  • Jared: Bubblegum
  • Drew: Surgery
  • Josh: more of a bite to it
  • DJ: Thinks this might go well a cigar
  • Drew: Smokey
  • Jared: Thinks that this will go well with Jerky
  • MCW: Numbing
  • Rami: Lighter than the Bulliet
  • Mike: Tastes thinner
  • Drew: Might be good for a mixed drink
  • Sijie: Less flavor than less time, tastes like a single
  • Josh: I like it better than the Bushmills

Mitchter's US-1 (Rye)

  • Drew: Honey, cinnamon
  • Josh: Spicy, way more flavor
  • DJ: Bold Syrup
  • Mike: Vanilla, finish

Wilet (which one?)

  • Drew: Desert
  • Jared: Chocolate Notes, bit of toffee, after it sits a bit of caramel
  • Rami: Coats your mouth a little bit
  • Drew: Spicy noise, stings the eyes
  • MCW: Carmel
  • Jared: Orange
  • MCW: Is that a blood orange
  • Jared: I'd say a tangerine, if your going to be a jerk
  • Rami: Smooth
  • Mike: Not too Syrupy, not thin either
