At 9:45am, Wednesday October 23rd, I was turning right from Skymark Ave to Explorer Drive.
There was a bus, 35AW, parked on Skymark with its hazard lights on, approximately 3 meters back from the intersection.
I passed the bus on the left, intending to turn right on Explorer, but before I could complete the pass, the bus started moving.
I was ahead of the bus, forward of its front left corner, and couldn’t get back into the right lane; further I believed the driver hadn’t seen me, as I could clearly see him and he showed no signs of acknowledging my presence, and I believed that I was in danger of being struck unless I made my presence known. I called “Hello!” to the window, which I could see was partially open.
The bus slammed on its brakes, and the driver blasted the horn at me while giving me the middle finger. I returned the gesture over my shoulder.
At this point, I considered things done with; however, the driver proceeded to follow me after I turned. He pulled up and proceeded to pass me in the left lane, stopping mid pass when I was lined up with his door. He continued to follow me, keeping pace with me up Explorer at roughly 15 km/h, gesturing obscenely through his door and mouthing (or shouting at me, I couldn’t have heard him through the closed door) the entire time. I yelled “that was a fully legal pass”, referring to my overtaking him on Skymark Ave. He continued to gesture obscenely.
At this point, we were approaching another bus stopped on explorer drive, in the right hand lane. The driver pointed forward to the stopped bus, while smiling, and proceeded to block me from exiting the right lane. He used the bus to force me to remain in the right lane, knowing that it was blocked, all the while continuing to gesture obscenely.
This went on for several seconds, and then I accelerated, pulled ahead of him between his bus and the stopped bus, and pulled in front of him, and into the turning lane onto Matheson Blvd; completed my turn and pulled into my office parking lot. 2700 Matheson. He turned after me, and slowed to give me a final obscene gesture.
This was by far the worst behaviour I’ve ever experienced from another driver, and it was from a professional, on-duty driver. To say this is "unacceptable behaviour" is an under statement. My only regret is that I didn't stop the bus and get the drivers name.
