The Daily Beast is seeking an Interactive News Applications Reporter.

To give you a sense of what type of work you would be doing, here are some of our past interactive projects on Super PAC spending, mapping the access to abortion clinics, looking deeper into what force-feeding at Guantanamo Bay does to the body and tracking members' of congress statements on gun control, complete with a Twitter bot.

The job would be a good fit for you if you have an interest in telling engaging journalistic stories through new digital ways -- emphasis on good journalism. You'll need a strong sense of the news and a desire to tell it in new ways.

A typical day could have you pitching your own idea, mocking it up and developing it or working in a team to work through an unanswered data question in a big story. Collaborating a bunch with our awesome social media team is to be expected. As we say, interactivity is more than making things change when people click on them. We're really interesting in reporting pieces that affect how our readers experience the news and pushing new ways of doing that.

Knowledge of HTML/CSS and JavaScript is required. Equally important is an enthusiasm for writing about the process of digital news on our staff Tumblr at NewsBeastLabs.tumblr.com. Knowledge of SQL, PostGIS, and a server-side language such as Ruby, Node.js or Python is suggested. We're a small newsroom so you get the chance to wear many hats. If you want to strictly do front-end development for news apps but don't want to pick up the phone for a story or keep up with the congressional legislative agenda, then this probably isn't the job you'd be happiest in. Sitting at the nexus of editorial, design and development, you'll have to be a self-starter who create his or her own workflows to get the story done.

To apply, send an email describing yourself and your interest in the position, a resume and a list of links to your work / GitHub / personal site to [email protected] and [email protected] . The position is in New York City.

Hello, Michael. Any chance you could remove this or make it private? It's for an old job posting for TDB but it's appearing at the top of some Google searches!
