i have already reached out to my mentor to talk to him about a job shadow. He's currently working from home, so i'm not sure how this will work out just yet, but we are talking about it. I'm also thinking about reaching out to a friend from my original cohort, Patrick McLaughlin, to talk to him about a job shadow. I've spoken to several of my friends from previous cohorts (1711 and 1801) about their jobs, job-searches, etc, and i plan to attend as many get togethers as i can.
i've also been meaning to attend the React Denver meetup that we have at Turing once a month, so i was planning on going to that also. They are meeting on Tuesday, Oct 16. This meetup is interesting to me because i'm excited to dig into React--which we will start learning in class at the end of this week--and i'm excited to see what people can build using it. It's also convenient that it's right there in the basement, but i was interested before that. However, because it is in Turing, it should be less difficult for me to engage with the people who are there, though i realize i take a bit of a chance that i will just be sitting with a bunch of people i already know. Provided that's not the case, i'm going to try and at least get slack information from a few people and see if i can leverage those contacts for job shadow opportunities, or at least a coffee talk.
Mike, great job of leveraging your network and reaching out to some specific people. It is great to leverage 1711 and 1801 as so many of them have jobs in Denver! Think about having a list of go to questions that you will ask people in those meetings and consider ensuring that you have the time in your calendar to follow up with those coffee meetings.
