developement tools installation script in centos

Install Node JS and NPM on CentOS 6.4

Login as root

su -

install the dependancy applications first

yum install gcc gcc-c++
yum install autoconf automake make
yum install curl
yum install openssl-devel

install Node JS

  • Download NoteJS’s packages

    wget http://nodejs.org/dist/v0.10.17/node-v0.10.17.tar.gz

  • Extract

    tar zxvf node-v0.10.17.tar.gz

  • install

     cd node-v0.10.17
     ./configure
     make
     make install
    

install NPM

curl -s https://npmjs.org/install.sh > npm-install-$$.sh
chmod +x npm-install-*.sh
sh npm-install-*.sh

install python

wget http://www.python.org/ftp/python/2.7.6/Python-2.7.6.tar.xz
yum install xz-libs
xz -d Python-2.7.6.tar.xz
tar -xvf Python-2.7.6.tar
cd Python-2.7.6

# Start the configuration (setting the installation directory)
# By default files are installed in /usr/local.
# You can modify the --prefix to modify it (e.g. for $HOME).
./configure --prefix=/usr/local   
# Let's build (compile) the source
# This procedure can take awhile (~a few minutes)
make

# After building everything:
make altinstall
