Namecore is progressing but Daniel was not present to report, deferred to next meeting.

Lightweight Clients

hl: models to choose from: UTXO, UTXO with coinbase commitments ("UTXO CB"), NX CB, UTXO CB + NX CB, SPV36, FN36

• tradeoffs: threshold depths vs trust
• privacy, TOR are orthogonal issues
• Actions: try to implement an FN36 client
  • client will limit download to 12 blocks deep and 36k blocks total
  • depends on getheaders call, which Namecore supports
  • preferrably prune non-name transactions
  • Jeremy_Rand will play with libcoin

NMControl

Want an RPC call that returns a DNS-formatted record for a given .bit domain and request type; this would help with Unbound integration.

• technical debts: convert to Python 3, quit using PyDNS and PyMDS
• Decision: move towards Unbound via RPC for d/ calls
• Actions:
  • indolering will implement, ryan-c will check it
  • Jeremy_Rand will look at format validation
  • indolering and jbisch will look at the 2to3 port

Android Port of NMControl

jbisch can run nmcontrol on android and pull dns

• it will need a proxy with apps like Firefox for Android
• OR root can be used to run the DNS server on port 53
• pondering mitmproxy, Convergence, and SSLBump

Decision: look at mitmproxy, only terminate TLS for .bit

BitcoinArmory

jbisch has been porting to namecoin. Basic support but not names.

• tests need work
• namecoin testnet needs exercising
• indolering is working on UI
• Jeremy_Rand has some JSON generation UI, blocked by NMControl

Actions: ryan-c has been loaded, but will raise this among his namecoin priorities

Funding

• Jeremy_Rand has several hundred $USD for bounties to be committed before mid-March
• jonasbits suggested a testnet block explorer
• DiscusFish donated 20k NMC

Build Systems

• cassiniNMC is updating wiki with QT build instructions
• Namecore probably will use Gintian scripts from Bitcoin Core
• Automated builds: Jeremy_Rand looking at Travis and Drone.io

CA Certificates

• Tradeoffs: improvement over no TLS at all, versus false sense of security, versus rate of adoption and ease of use
• validating proxies are not easy yet
• Actions:
  • ryan-c will talk to CA, who have expressed interest
