Professional Story

Who Are You?

I am a front end web developer currently specializing in Javascript. I am working to eventually become a full-stack developer. Personal health is very important to me, I enjoy spending my free time doing some sort of exercise (yoga, lifting weights, running, swimming) or creative activity (writing, playing music, photography, visual arts).

Writing clean, dry, modular code is very important to me. It's satisfying knowing your code is refactored as best as possible. I enjoy the marriage of creativity and logic that comes with being a developer.

Why are you here?

After getting my bachelors degree and working at a brokerage firm for a year after school, I realized I wanted to do something more fulfilling. Studying Music Business and Recording Arts in school, I had a creative itch that working in Finance was not scratching. But I also wanted to do something a little more professional and progressive than the music business. I had always been interested in being a developer, but just assumed it was out of reach because I was too deep in my major. Eventually I realized it was what I truly wanted in a career, so I went back to study web development.

What's next?

I am optimistic for the future. I want to round out my skills so I can be a credible full-stack developer. It depends on what jobs I find myself in, but right now I would like to learn Ruby as a back end language. I would still like to use part of my music degree in my work in the future, maybe if I could work on a music-based website or working with music data.

Hey Cody, this is an excellent draft! You're very clear with your motives, transferable skills, and goals for the future, and your voice is very personable. My advice for future iterations are to see how you can bring all three of these sections together for a cohesive narrative. Nice work!
