How to use a PS3 controller on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

How to use a PS3 controller on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion)

  1. Open Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Bluetooth and disable Bluetooth on Mac as well as any other nearby Macs or devices which will try to pair with and confuse the controller.

  2. Reset PS3 controller by inserting paperclip into pinhole near L2 button.

  3. Connect PS3 controller to Mac with USB cable.

  4. Enable Bluetooth.

UIBezierPath category to create an arrow (now with a Swift version!)
// Swift 2.2 syntax / API
import UIKit
extension UIBezierPath {
class func arrow(from start: CGPoint, to end: CGPoint, tailWidth: CGFloat, headWidth: CGFloat, headLength: CGFloat) -> Self {
let length = hypot(end.x - start.x, end.y - start.y)
let tailLength = length - headLength

Mark designated initializer at compile time
#define MSDesignatedInitializer(__SEL__) __attribute__((unavailable("Invoke the designated initializer `" # __SEL__ "` instead.")))
// Sample usage:
- (instancetype)initWithObject:(id)object;
- (instancetype)init MSDesignatedInitializer(initWithObject:); // <- This even gets auto-complete.
// Now calling init on this class would throw a warning.

Every time I hit something that annoys me in Xcode, I add the feature/UX improvement/change I'd like to the list.

Xcode Wish List:

Legacy Support

  • Additional optional downloads:
    • Older SDKs, eg, for building ancient projects.
    • Older compilers (for same).
  • Either ship gcc/llvm-gcc or don't. Don't ship clang and call it 'gcc', that just breaks anyone who actually needs GCC and finds your not-gcc in the PATH.
