TP-Link Router Config Decrypt

TP-Link Router Config

Update 2021-04-29: This may still work for you if you've got an old TP-Link router, but this is not maintained and doesn't work with newer models. If you've got a newer router, other projects like tpconf_bin_xml will likely work better for you.

TP-Link allows you to backup and restore your router's config file. For some reason, they decided to encrypt these backups so you cannot modify them. I think this is dumb. This script lets you decrypt and re-encrypt your config files so you can modify them as you see fit.

I use this to modify my reserved addresses list because editing them through the web interface is terribly slow and cumbersome.

  1. Go to the router and download the config file from the "Backup & Restore" section of "System Tools".
  2. Run ruby tp.rb config.bin

Tunneling Ethernet Over SSH With Socat and Tap Devices

Tunneling Ethernet Over SSH With Socat and Tap Devices

There are circumstances where one wants to attach the local machine to the same layer 2 ethernet segment, which a remote machine is connected to, with the only available transport being SSH.

While this solution has quite some shortcomings and should not be used to replace a real VPN, it can be beneficial e.g. for debugging network issues remotely.

How to get MWAN3 Working Properly on OpenWRT / LEDE

In experience to get a proper working multiple wan configuration using mwan3 starting from scratch you should:

Important: this works well on OpenWRT 15.05.1, on newer versions there was some breaking changes, for example, the wan ifaces have ipv6 capability and now are named with letters ("wan, wanb... , wanc" instead of "wan, wan2... wan3" so wanb6 means 2nd wan ipv6.): https://github.com/openwrt/packages/blob/master/net/mwan3/files/etc/config/mwan3

The official documentation seems to be very detailed and up to date, I recommend reading those first: https://openwrt.org/docs/guide-user/network/wan/multiwan/mwan3 but I recommend to give a look at my config file below, since my approach for policyes is very nice.

First of all: Activate conntrack, docs says that is important and neccesary to get MWAN3 work properly, and it is needed to reboot:

Create tun/tap device that just copies all packets to/from the given ethernet interface.
Primary use case: workaround non-working "ip link set wlan0 netns ..." for some network drivers.
Secondary use case: simple demo for getting/setting the MAC address, tun/tap, raw sockets...
