Commit and push via Github REST API, from ruby RestClient
# Committing changes to a repo via the Github API is not entirely trivial.
# The five-step process is outlined here:
#
# Matt Swanson wrote a blog post translating the above steps into actual API calls:
#
# I was not able to find sample code for actually doing this in Ruby,
# either via the HTTP API or any of the gems that wrap the API.
# So in the hopes it will help others, here is a simple function to

Better local require() paths for Node.js

Better local require() paths for Node.js

Problem

When the directory structure of your Node.js application (not library!) has some depth, you end up with a lot of annoying relative paths in your require calls like:

const Article = require('../../../../app/models/article');

Those suck for maintenance and they're ugly.

Possible solutions

How effectively delete a git submodule.

To remove a submodule you need to:

  • Delete the relevant section from the .gitmodules file.
  • Stage the .gitmodules changes git add .gitmodules
  • Delete the relevant section from .git/config.
  • Run git rm --cached path_to_submodule (no trailing slash).
  • Run rm -rf .git/modules/path_to_submodule (no trailing slash).
  • Commit git commit -m "Removed submodule "
  • Delete the now untracked submodule files rm -rf path_to_submodule
# Hello, and welcome to makefile basics.

# it is actually a highly expressive, efficient, and powerful way to build
# programs.

# to learn SOOOO much more.
