any have experience with translating text in Open edX who could help us out with this issue? https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topicsearchin/openedx-ops/i18n$20workflow/openedx-ops/cmVT61NHSsU

singingwolfboy: do you know who at edX is familiar with i18n issues?
[10:40am] <natea> | |
nedbat: ^^^ | |

natea: i18n is one of the unloved redheaded stepchildren at edX, unfortunately.
[10:40am] <natea> | |
i would ask Sarina, but i don’t see her in the IRC channel.
[10:41am] <singingwolfboy>
natea: our best resource for that is sarina, but she is intentionally not taking on significant i18n work, with the goal of pressuring edX into hiring someone whose full-time job is handling i18n
[10:41am] <singingwolfboy>
i18n isn't her job, nor should it be
[10:41am] <natea> | |
ahh.. good move. | |

natea: so yeah, there are some things about i18n with Open edX that don't work well, or are simply flat-out broken. I know that it causes people in the community a lot of pain that there's no way to download translations for older versions of the codebase, for example.
[10:42am] <natea> | |
pending that hire, is there anyone in the community that you know of who has successfully translated Chinese strings (or any other language, other than english), who might be able to assist us with this issue?
[10:43am] <natea> | |
maybe @tusbar at IONISx or @FelipeMontoya at EduNext?
[10:43am] <singingwolfboy>
natea: the initial work of getting the platform internationalized was done by TsinghuaX, who is a member of the edX Consortium
[10:43am] <singingwolfboy>
natea: I imagine that they have some knowledge around that |
