| Senior Product Engineer | |
| Job Type: Full-time | |
| Kaysville, UT and Remote (United States Only) | |
| Salary Range: 180-220K DOE | |
| Who We Are: | |
| At Bark we’re doing something special to make the digital world a safer place for | |
| children. Our work isn't just another job; it's a chance to make a real impact on the lives | |
| of children and families. | |
| Imagine using cutting-edge machine-learning to empower parents to partner with their | |
| kids, providing them with the tools and alerts they need to ensure their child's safety and | |
| wellbeing in the digital realm. We're tackling critical issues like social media, bullying, | |
| sexting, body image, online predators, drugs, signs of depression, and more. | |
| Our team is a tight-knit group of passionate engineers, and we're eager to grow and | |
| build awesome stuff together. We believe that empathy is a core job skill, and our | |
| multicultural, inclusive team embodies this value. Whether or not you're a parent, you | |
| understand the importance of protecting and nurturing the young minds that navigate | |
| the online world - because you were once a child too. | |
| We are seeking a seasoned, collaborative engineer with extensive recent experience in | |
| Ruby on Rails, strong computer science fundamentals, and the ability to lead complex, | |
| full-stack product initiatives from concept through execution. | |
| What You’ll Do | |
| ● Own the full stack: Implement features end-to-end across UI, application logic, | |
| and data layers. This role involves meaningful contributions to our existing Rails | |
| codebase as well as other parts of the stack (e.g., frontend development, | |
| experimentation platform, iOS/Android integrations). | |
| ● Develop product features from inception to delivery, spanning frontend, backend, | |
| reporting, administration, and security. | |
| ● Work extensively within our primary Rails application, which follows conventional | |
| Rails patterns, runs on the latest version of Ruby, uses four databases on AWS, | |
| and is supported by a robust and up-to-date test suite. | |
| ● Safeguard sensitive personal data with rigorous attention to security and privacy. | |
| ● Collaborate closely with a highly engaged team that values impact and | |
| pragmatism over perfection. Participate in thoughtful technical discussions and | |
| be willing to challenge ideas constructively, providing well-reasoned | |
| perspectives. | |
| ● Contribute to a monolithic Rails architecture that adheres to best practices—no | |
| network services layer—while ensuring clean abstractions and sustainable | |
| growth. | |
| ● Participate in experimentation and iteration, leveraging our experimentation | |
| platform to ship early and learn quickly. | |
| ● Mentor and be mentored: Share your expertise and actively learn from your | |
| peers to continually raise the technical bar. | |
| ● Engage in code reviews focused on incremental improvement and long-term | |
| maintainability. | |
| What We’re Looking For | |
| ● 8+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of | |
| leading complex product initiatives. | |
| ● Mandatory: | |
| ○ Extensive and recent experience working in Ruby on Rails, including | |
| hands-on development in production environments. | |
| ○ Deep familiarity with conventional Rails architectures and large monolithic | |
| applications. | |
| ○ Demonstrated ability to work with well-tested Rails applications using best | |
| practices. | |
| ● Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or equivalent practical experience), with | |
| a solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, and systems design. | |
| ● Proven ability to turn ambiguous concepts into production-ready features, | |
| architecting solutions that are reliable, maintainable, and scalable. | |
| ● Proficiency in multiple programming languages, with expert-level knowledge of at | |
| least one. | |
| ● Comprehensive understanding of web fundamentals, including browser/server | |
| interactions, databases, caching, external systems, and APIs. | |
| ● Strong communication skills, self-management, and ability to collaborate | |
| effectively with cross-functional teams. | |
| Nice to Have | |
| ● Experience operating in AWS environments and selecting appropriate managed | |
| services. | |
| ● Strong SQL query analysis and optimization capabilities. | |
| ● Experience with native iOS integrations. While the bulk of our product uses an | |
| embedded WebView, we continue to expand native functionality. | |
| ● An eye for product and design, with the ability to balance technical constraints | |
| and user experience considerations. | |
| Benefits: | |
| ● Competitive compensation commensurate with experience | |
| ● Equity stake in Bark | |
| ● Paid time off | |
| ● Paid sick time | |
| ● Health Benefits: | |
| ○ Medical | |
| ○ Dental | |
| ○ Vision | |
| ○ Healthcare Support | |
| ○ On-Demand Primary Care | |
| ○ Online Mental Health Therapy | |
| ○ Flexible Spending Account (FSA) | |
| ○ Supplemental Life Insurance | |
| ○ 401(k) | |
| ○ Voluntary Long-term and Short-term Disability Insurance | |
