| Let me briefly explain the process in which I'm trying to give you money: | |
| 1) I click a total of seven times to get to the point where I can pay my tuition and I'm greeted with: "Security Error: The authentication process failed or the page is not accessible to you at this moment." I decide to call the IT department and they say I need to try FireFox, it works. They go on to say if I allow third-party cookies on my initial browser the site would work. This is a terrible recommendation, third-party cookies are very insecure and should never be allowed. I'm trying to give you a lot of money and this should be easy. | |
| 2) I go to make a payment using my credit card. You only accept Mastercard and Discover, seriously? I only have Visa (along with everyone else) so this isn't going to work, not to mention the $25 fee you charge which, by this point is the turning of the blade. I'm trying to give you a lot of money and this should be easy. | |
| 3) I call the Bursars office they say use a check. | |
| 4) I now need to fill out a petition form to hopefully get my $100 late fee waved because I apparently missed my first payment in my ridiculous schedule of teaching at KU, taking a graduate class, and working full-time. Finding the form is rather difficult. I first perform a search and I get no relevant results. I scour the Bursars office website to no avail, then call. They say I need to go to Registrar.ku.edu > Current Students > Fee Petition. Of course, because Registrar and Bursar are completely different, I should have known. After filling out the form I get the following error: "You have made an invalid entry in field Reason. Please do not enter ; @ # ! & ^ * % ( ) [ ] { } < or >". This error is apparently due to me using an exclamation mark in the "Reason for this request" field. Weird. | |
| I understand there's probably little impetus for a University to invest time into the way it interacts with people, they have to pay tuition one way or the other. However, for someone making such a large investment the process should be as painless as possible. | |
| I don't want to be the angry user recently frustrated by a unique chain of events on a Monday afternoon, I actually want to help. I'm a graduate student studying Interaction Design with seven years professional experience which makes me particularly keen about these situations. The door is open, I'd love to help. Thanks for hearing me out. | |

| P.S. You have no idea how hard it was for me to refrain from mentioning my Blackboard experiences. |
