Uber expanding in Denmark

The taxi challenger Uber aims to hire 100 engineers in Aarhus

Last year, Uber created a development centre here. Now the company is announcing that they are ready to expand the staff with up to 1000 more than the one of roughly 20. If finding find the right ones, we'll expand elsewhere, it is reported..

The taxi company Uber (FML, nd.) wants to expand its "Research & Development Center" in Aarhus. The corporation created the development centre last year and is currently employing around 20 people at Katrinebjerg (college-tech campus/hub of sorts, nd.) in Aarhus.

Those are now to be accompanied by up to 100 new developers to manage the development of Uber's infrastructure, as reported by several in the media.

Lars Dyrhagen, "head of public policy" at Uber, confirms the company is currently looking for development engineers:

»We are ready to recruit some bright people. If you are a part f the world's elite, or you want to, all you need to do is send an application to Uber right away,« reads the invitation from Lars Dyrhagen to business.dk (Referenced article here. Same article mentions total salary expenses in 2014 of 8.5M DKK = $1.28M, nd.)

When Uber has chosen to place a development division in Denmark, it's because of several things. One of the reasons is the access to skilled specialists:

»Uber is looking at where there's a presence of it (tech, nd.) skills and talents. Denmark has that,« he says to business.dk

Should finding enough engineers fail in Aarhus, it won't be a cause of major furrowing:

»We want for them to apply (could also be "look", nd.) in Aarhus, because that's our best development centre, but if we can't fill the quota in Aarhus, we'll just fill it in New York i New York, San Francisco, Vilnius, Kina or elsewhere,« says Lars Dyrhagen til finans.dk. (Lots of coverage of Uber there right now, nd.)

(Basic Uber background, blah blah, nd.)

News of the new engineer hires will according to Business.dk be announced today, when economic minister Morten Østergaard (R) visits Uber as part of his election tour. (Østergaard is the party leader of The Danish Social-Liberal Party, and the election is held tomorrow. It also looks like he's run into a shitstorm with cab orgs and politicians on the left. Uber is still illegal in Denmark, and charges have been filed, but they still operate, because Uber. nd.)

Today, Uber is represented in 57 countries. Currently, Copenhagen is the only Danish city appearing on the company website.
