How do you start and stop irb?
- start - type "irb" into your terminal
- stop - type "exit" into your terminal
What might you use irb for?
- to test or experiment short ruby code, not great for writing long programs

Variables

How do you create a variable?
- var = value
What did you learn about the rules for naming variables?
- cannot begin with a number, cannot be all numbers, use underscore not dashes,
How do you change the value of a variable?
- similar to how you create a variable, var = newValue

Datatypes

How can you find out the class of a variable?
- var.class
What are two string methods?
- .to_i // .hash
How can you change an integer to a string?
- 5.to_s

Strings

Why might you use double quotes instead of single quotes in Ruby?
- in case you choose to make use of string interpolation and want it to work
What is this used for in Ruby: #{}?
- string interpolation
How would you remove all the vowels from a string?
- "string".delete('aeiou')

Input & Output

What do 'print' and 'puts' do in Ruby?
- pass information to program user by displaying
What does 'gets' do in Ruby?
- obtains information from user and makes it available for the program

Numbers & Arithmetic

What is the difference between integers and floats?
- whole numbers vs. decimal values

- - compares for equality

Conditionals

What is flow control?
- using logic to process information and return desired results
What will the following code return?
- "Not many apples..."

end

What is an infinite loop, and how can you get out of one?
- when you set up the conditionals in such a way that the program is unable to break out of it's loop, ctrl + c

What is nil?
- nil is a ruby object that has a boolean value of false, the only other ruby object with the same value is false

Symbols

How can symbols be beneficial in Ruby?
- they can help to conserve memory for large programs

Arrays

What method can you call to find out how many elements are in an array?
- array_name.length

- 0
What do 'push' and 'pop' do?
- push appends variable to end of array
- pop removes first variable in array

Hashes

Describe some differences between arrays and hashes.
- arrays store information well, but hashes make it simple to obtain specific datapoints
What is a case when you might prefer an array? What is a case when you might prefer a hash?
- prefer an array when you're simply storing a list of identical variable types
- prefer a hash when you want to store a variety of variable types
