These are the fn shortcuts that work with the built-in keyboard of my MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015) running macOS Monterey (12.6.2):
Fn key shortcut | Traditional shortcut | |
---|---|---|
Show Dock | fn A | ⌃ F3 |
Show Launchpad | ⇧ fn A | shortcut assignable |
Control Center | fn C | none |
Emoji & Symbols | fn E | ⌃ ⌘ Space |
Toggle Full Screen | fn F | ⌃ ⌘ F |
Go to Home Screen (Show Desktop) | fn H | F11 |
Menu bar | fn M | ⌃ F2 |
Notification Center | fn N | shortcut assignable |
Quick Note | fn Q | ⌘ bottom right hot corner |
The fn key on my machine does not have a Globe 🌐 on it.
Most non-Apple keyboards don't have access to the fn key, so only the traditional shortcuts work on them.
In some apps like Visual Studio Code, the fn shortcuts are buggy. For instance, fn E inserts an "e" character before showing the Emoji & Symbols palette. However, ⌃ ⌘ Space works as expected.
I disable the Show Desktop F11 default in System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts > Mission Control.
