Example of using Apache Bench (ab) to POST JSON to an API
# post_loc.txt contains the json you want to post
# -p means to POST it
# -H adds an Auth header (could be Basic or Token)
# -T sets the Content-Type
# -c is concurrent clients
# -n is the number of requests to run in the test
ab -p post_loc.txt -T application/json -H 'Authorization: Token abcd1234' -c 10 -n 2000 http://example.com/api/v1/locations/

Notes:

  • Text in [[ ]] are the internal libuv function call.
  • Text in {{ }} are the Node functions that are affected.
  • Text in ( ) are notes about what is happening.
  • While the Windows event loop has minor variations, I don't believe any of those affect Node.

PostgreSQL command line cheatsheet

PSQL

Magic words:

psql -U postgres

Some interesting flags (to see all, use -h or --help depending on your psql version):

  • -E: will describe the underlaying queries of the \ commands (cool for learning!)
  • -l: psql will list all databases and then exit (useful if the user you connect with doesn't has a default database, like at AWS RDS)
