You will be the first front-end developer in our team and will be supported by our lead full-stack developer. We are a small autonomous team making fundamental decisions about our product who have just transitioned technical ownership in-house. This will be our second technical hire – in addition to a product manager and product designer.
We are in a really exciting place at the moment having built an MVP with a development agency, we are in the process of going to market and iterating with early users. We feel this is a great opportunity for someone to jump on board with the rest of our small product team, take a handover from the development agency and help shape a potentially industry-defining product.
- Front-end: HTML, Sass/CSS, CoffeeScript/JS
- Backend: Ruby 2.3, Ruby on Rails 4.2, TDD using RSpec / Capybara

We’re looking for a front-end developer with...
- Experience in writing maintainable object-oriented JavaScript, HTML and CSS
- Experience working in a user-centric agile product team
- A passion for brilliant and beautiful product design
- Experience with Git
- Experience working on Rails applications (bonus)
You will:
- Translate designs and style guides provided by the UI/UX team into functional user interfaces, ensuring cross device compatibility and performance
- Be responsible for appropriate unit tests, integration tests, and deployment scripts
- Work closely with product design and technical team members to develop rapid prototypes for validating ideas
- Contribute to product functionality by suggesting improvements to user interface, software architecture, and new technologies
- Analyse existing systems and help architect improvements to codebase
- Communicate continually with the rest of the product team – explain progress on the development effort and respond to change constructively
- Understand good design principles and have a sharp eye for aesthetic detail
- Help define and adhere to our coding standards
- Help define the development culture of Spoke’s product team
- Peer review code across the development team
