Halo Maps

There are two basic maps in halo: smaller maps for 4 to 8 and larger maps for 8 to 12 to 16 players.

The size of a halo party you can get together is more typically 4 to 8.

Below are some of the groupings of maps that persisted across Halo: CE, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo: Reach and, Halo 4

Acronyms

  • Halo: Combat Evolved
  • H1, HCE
  • Halo 2 or Halo 2 Classic
  • H2
  • Halo 2: Anniversary
  • H2A
  • Halo 3
  • H3
  • Halo 4
  • H4
  • Halo Reach
  • HR

Battle Creek (H1), Beaver Creak (H2)

Small map, two bunkers with a stone arch and a creek in the middle.
Rocket, sniper and shotgun power weapons, with a teleport behind each base.

  • Battle Creek (Halo: CE)
  • Beaver Creek (Halo 2)

Zanzibar (H2), Stonetown (H2A), Last Resort (H3)

This is a great medium sized map, with a windmill and some great bases and turrets. Great for CTF. Rocket, shotgun and sniper and some small vehicles.

Blood Gulch (H1), Coagulation (H2), Bloodline (H2A), Hemmorage (HR)

Large map, 8 to 16 players.

Classic two bases in a large canyon. Red v Blue has several beginning episodes here. Rockets, tanks, ghosts, banshees. Great for capture the flag.

Some similar outdoor maps that have a large number of players and two main bases:

  • Valhalla (H3) - has trees
  • Ragnarok (H4) - has Mech's, has trees
  • Standoff (H3) - more base like things, but same idea
  • Ravine (H4) - smaller canyon, great ridge along one side

Ivory Tower (H2), Reflection (HR)

Great small indoor map. Lots of angles. Elevator on one end, water features and rockets on the other. Sword underneath. Sniper up high. Overshield on a ramp.

Midship (H2), Heretic (H3)

Great small indoor map. Alien, purple. Shotgun bottom center. Sword top center. No rocket, no sniper.

Another similar alien indoor map, little bigger:

  • Zealot (HR)

Sanctuary (H2), Shrine (H2A), Asylum (HR)

Wonderful symetrical, circular map. Sword dead center. Shotguns in the tunnels on the outside. Snipers on the center sightline. No rockets. Two turrets.

Outdoor. Some rock cover.

Lockout (H2), Lockdown (H2A), Blackout (H3), Shoutout (H4)

Asymmetric, 3 floors, 1 lift, green shotgun room in the basement, sniper tower. No rockets. Sword under one side.

Lots of angles. Lots of strategies. Well designed small map.

Similar design style but green outdoor one:

  • Guardian (H3), has a hammer, has a one way transport
  • Forgeworld > The Cage (HR), has rockets

Warlock (H2), Warlord (H2A), Wizard (H1)

Octogon map with a teleport across the middle. Camo up high in the middle. 4 ramp islands around the middle main island.
Two lift things at the ends.

Similar shape to:

  • Forge (H2)

The Pit (H3), Pitfall (H4), Hanger

Tactical indoor training room (looks like a laser tag room), great medium sized map. Rocket and snipers.

Narrows (H3)

Long map with one way transports

Swordbase (HR)

Long map with great hallways

Forge (H2)

Sword, Rocket, snipers, turrets, great mini bases at all 4 corners and bunker in the middle.

Abandon (H4)

Vines, swampy looking outdoor map. Great small map. Nice organic feel to it.

Adrift (H4)

Mech hanger in the dead center with the sword under it. Two high bases on two corners of the squarish map. One way transports on two of the sides. Three levels. Medium sized map.

Haven (H4)

Two level half circle map with a one way transport or two. Nice medium sized map.

Powerhouse (HR)

Outdoor map with watery thing. Rockets, hammer, snipers. Medium sized map.

Forgeworld > The Cage (HR)

Great medium sized map. Rockets, sniper, shotgut, one way transport on one side. 3 levels with a complex middle.

Countdown (HR)

Indoor map, two main lifts, sword on the cat walk, sniper, no rocket. Lots of lifts to change floors.

Boardwalk (HR)

Looks like a mall, long map, no sword, rockets, sniper.

Isolation (H3)

Outdoor map with a high wall on the outside. Perpendicular tunnel in the middle. Some small vehicles.
