I have kind of an unusual offer here, hear me out:
I'm offering a room in the heart of uptown for $300->$0 (yes, FREE) through February. No, it's not a scam or a sex thing, here's the situation.
I'm fixing up an ancient Duplex that I got in pretty bad condition with the intention of making it a 6 person community feaux-op.
It's actually a beautiful house with lots of perks
- big yard | |
- big garage | |
- 3 bathrooms | |
- 3 kitchens | |
- perfect location (very close to lakes and uptown shopping)
- pets welcome | |
- I've got a lot of resources to put towards it and I think it will be a wonderful community home within a year
I'm offering the low-to-no rent because there will be big challenges. Namely:
- I'm renovating it while living in it
- bathrooms will be out of service for stretches of time while they're renovated
- I'll probably ask you to move rooms at least once
- unexpected things may come up
- The kitchen and bathroom that aren't currently down to the studs kind of suck (everything works well, but they're real uggo)
- Plus the house is just a messy construction zone.
Still reading? Wow, you're adventurous, I love it. Ok, here's what the ideal person would look like-- I've posted here before but still haven't found exactly who I'm looking for and I apologize if you got skipped over. I'm being pretty picky since this person will help me define the community and spend a lot of time with me in a challenging living environment, so the vibes have to vibe:
Must haves: | |
- You are reliable, trustworthy, well-intentioned, honest
- You are committed to assuming best intentions and practicing proactive non-violent communication
- You feel capable of respectfully holding boundaries in a relationship that is both landlord + roommate, you have a clear idea of what your boundaries are in this kind of relationship
- You can pass a background and credit check
- You're politically leftish, but in a gentle way where you can handle intra-leftist political disagreements without villainizing or denigrating others
- I have a small, hypoallergenic, very sweet dog-- occasionally I may ask you to watch/walk/feed him, not beyond what would be asked of in a normal roommate situation
- I'm taking a trip for a good chunk of February and would like someone to be with the house while I'm away
Nice to have: | |
- You share some interests with me (games, world-craft, nerdy stuff, politics, history, biking, martial arts, language learning, reading/writing, weightlifting)
- You have experienced living in community-style-housing and you like it
- Honestly, I'm a cis white guy, and I want this to be a diverse community where all feel welcome, so preference will be given to people who don't share my exact identity so that this trend doesn't... uh... 'snowball'
- You are excited to help build a community, and the rent discount is a perk
- You are interested in staying for more than a year and you're capable of paying average uptown rent once our special-construction-zone period is complete (roughly $700, varying by room)
If you're willing and able to help with construction or maintenance tasks for one full day a week (weekend is fine), rent will be free. Otherwise, it's $300 (under half of average rent in this area). We would sign a normal lease
If you got THIS far... well, send me a message containing 'grapes' so I know you read the whole thing. I'm excited to meet you, friend 🙂 |
