sometimes you just can't figure it out because it's so damn simple -- and undocumented. thank you!!
Unfortunately it doesn't work with Thunar 1.6.11 because it says Not a WebDAV enabled share.
I use this format
// My owncloud installation domain.com/owncloud
davs://[email protected]/owncloud/remote.php/webdav/files/root

Webdav URL format for file access should be:
davs://[email protected]/remote.php/dav/files/user
(this is the same for Nextcloud)
I ended up being challenged to enter the name and password, so really only needed:
davs://domain.com/remote.php/dav/files/
