Thoughts on Core Dev Panel for DjangoCon

There is currently an outstanding stalled request from Sean for a new chair - I'm tempted to help, but looking for help/feedback from core dev members to make it something improved.

Challenges:

  • too many core devs for the old format - results in very few questions with lots of mic passing and everyone feeling like they get little or nothing to say - so why bother
  • same questions get asked every year - still interesting to newcomers - but get very old for core and DjangoCon veterens. Need an FAQ.
  • What is interesting to Core Devs - now a more diverse group.

Brainstorming a shake up the format:

  • limit topic, could be uninteresting to some. Py3, realtime, html5
  • limit participants? Opt in? New core devs, active core devs?
  • format where only core devs get to ask meaty questions of each other - DDN topics? New core devs ask old core devs for advice on managing the project?
  • a core dev meeting held transparently on stage?
  • bachelor game showish format with whimsical yet informative questions? What is your favorite internal bit? What are your own Django worst habits? etc

Basically - this is something that attendees all "want" and I'm looking for a way to make it something core-devs would actually find interesting and worth participating, rather than something they'd rather avoid.
