Setup HashiCorp Vault on docker

Setup HashiCorp Vault on docker

Vault secures, stores, and tightly controls access to tokens, passwords, certificates, API keys, and other secrets in modern computing. Vault is primarily used in production environments to manage secrets. Vault is a complex system that has many different pieces. There is a clear separation of components that are inside or outside of the security barrier. Only the storage backend and the HTTP API are outside, all other components are inside the barrier.

Vault_architecture

Figure 1: Architecture of Vault and Spring App (Click to enlarge)

The storage backend is untrusted and is used to durably store encrypted data. When the Vault server is started, it must be provided with a storage backend so that data is available across restarts. The HTTP API similarly must be started by the Vault server on start so that clients can interact with it.

How to create an always running service in Android

Full Source Code: https://github.com/varunon9/DynamicWallpaper/tree/always_running_service

Steps-

  1. Create a Foreground Service (MyService.java)
  2. Create a Manifest registered Broadcast Receiver (MyReceiver.java) which will start your Foreground Service
  3. In onDestroy lifecycle of MyService, send a broadcast intent to MyReceiver
  4. Launch the MyService on app start from MainActivity (see step 8)
  5. With above 4 steps, MyService will always get re-started when killed as long as onDestroy of Service gets called
  6. onDestroy method of Service is not always guaranteed to be called and hence it might not get started again

Recursively copy directory in Dart (requires "path")
/*
* I'm sure there's a better way to do this, but this solution works for me.
* Recursively copies a directory + subdirectories into a target directory.
* You may want to replace calls to sync() with Futures. There's also no error handling. Have fun.
*/
import 'dart:io';
import 'package:path/path.dart' as path;
void copyDirectory(Directory source, Directory destination) =>

The poor man's Dagger: Exemplifying how to implement dependency injection on Android by (ab)using ApplicationContext's getSystemService(). Here we attain inversion of control without the need of any external library. We also use Kotlin's extension methods to provide a friendlier, strongly-typed API to locate dependencies.
class PlacesActivity : AppCompatActivity() {
private lateinit var placesPresenter: PlacesPresenter
override fun onCreate(savedInstanceState: Bundle?) {
super.onCreate(savedInstanceState)
// This is how you instantiate your Presenter while the service locator resolves all of its dependencies
// Note that the explicit type argument <PlacesPresenter> is not even necessary since Kotlin can infer the type
placesPresenter = application.getSystemService<PlacesPresenter>()
}
}

Create a private fork of a public repository

The repository for the assignment is public and Github does not allow the creation of private forks for public repositories.

The correct way of creating a private frok by duplicating the repo is documented here.

For this assignment the commands are:

  1. Create a bare clone of the repository. (This is temporary and will be removed so just do it wherever.)

git clone --bare [email protected]:usi-systems/easytrace.git

Hexadecimal color code for transparency

Twitter

How to set transparency with hex value ?

For example, you want to set 40% alpha transparence to #000000 (black color), you need to add 66 like this #66000000.
