CS1090A Section 4 — Cross-validation and Model Selection

Contents

• cs1090a_sec04_student.ipynb: the section notebook
• data/, images/: files the notebook reads
• pyproject.toml, uv.lock, .python-version, src/: the Python environment definition

Setup

1. Install uv if you don't have it:

   # macOS / Linux
   curl -LsSf https://astral.sh/uv/install.sh | sh
   # Windows (PowerShell)
   powershell -ExecutionPolicy ByPass -c "irm https://astral.sh/uv/install.ps1 | iex"

2. From this folder, create the environment. uv downloads Python 3.14 if you don't have it and installs the exact package versions pinned in uv.lock:

   uv sync

3. Start JupyterLab:

   uv run jupyter lab

   and open cs1090a_sec04_student.ipynb. You don't need to activate anything: uv run runs the command inside the project's .venv.
