- Updated new player guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HWI1c2c4WX8
- Make sure you have working voice coms on at least on Discord (ingame VOIP is not always reliable)
- Cities and other landing zones have signs with directions and basic maps, look around and pay attention to the signs. (3.23+ also minimap, however paying attention to signs etc will be immensely helpful in locations that do not have a minimap available)
- If you can't get a guide via the official system just tell in server chat that you're new and ask if someone could show you around, there probably is someone.
- Turret gunner cheat sheet: https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/guide-turret-gunner-cheatsheet
- On-foot combat is deadly; even in heavy armor you will go down with one good burst. Use cover (almost all cover will block shots), slice corners, be tactical about your approaches and avoid going to combat alone. Heavy helmet and medium other components is IMO best balance of protection and mobility.
- Having trouble with Quantum Travel (either setting routes or not being able to jump) see https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/psa-quantum-not-working, or jump to a nearby orbital location.
- To get on same shard/server with a friend right-click on their name in menu, or use party-launch
- Try out head-tracking, it will make your life in SC immensely better.
- Bunker missions are great way to get armor and other gear, go in with flightsuit and pistol and then "live off the land" by taking gear from downed pirates. <- with 4.0 AI performance has improved, be careful.
- Ship spawning above the pad ? https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/floating-ship-the-workaround/329020
- Most ships are rentable in-game, just doublecheck what you are paying before clicking on confirm.
- Almost all ships are buyable in-game, many with just a few hours to days of grind once you know what you are doing.
- https://www.erkul.games/ play with ship loadouts, ship price and purchase/rent location information is not up-to-date
- https://uexcorp.space/ships info on where to buy or rent ships.
- https://finder.cstone.space/ where to find all kinds of items
- https://sc-trade.tools/ where to sell "salvaged" cargo or plan trader routes as trader
- https://verseguide.com/ info on various locations
- If you want to test a particular ship ask on server chat if someone could loan you one, there probably is someone.
- When interacting with menus while holding [F] press the [Middle-Mouse Button] to zoom and lock your view, that way when you use the mouse-wheel to scroll up and down you're not zooming anymore!!!
- You need to remove all your clothes before you can put on a flightsuit/undersuit (the hospital gown usually, or did you remember to remove your shoes as well)
Master Modes changes everything so a lot of the old tutorials for 3.22 and prior are no longer applicable.
- IMPORTANT; lots of keybind changes https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/4/thread/3-23-ptu-keybind-change-summary
- Notes about Master Modes + GSAF etc https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/turn-off-gsafe-amp-tips-for-mm-success
- And some useful game settings etc from A1 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNluCuYo66Y
- Flight school. And since everything changed even (or maybe especially) old pilots need to get back to school https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FfS0VRkxI24
- See also above about the GSAF and related keybinds.
- Most Effective Tactic Available (META) according to A1:
- Never fly alone: Two is one, one is none.
- FLy interceptor (Buccaneer, M50, Avenger Titan/Warlock, Razor)
- Use cannons (Omninskys)
- Always remember to turn off engines when landed in gravity
Landing zones don't high frame rates because you're not fighting there (yet) and thus they're even less optimized for framerates than other things (which also are not fully optimized because this is alpha and fully optimizing something that will change is wasted effort)
- Turn off motion blur, film grain and vsync
- Lower volumetric cloud quality
- See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsBP2O7AVBU
- VKB joysticks are good value for money, Virpils are best you can buy but very expensive. Dual sticks (left and right) is probably best control for space sims, if you also play flight sims stick and throttle (HOTAS) might be better choice unless you have the money for both. See also https://robertsspaceindustries.com/spectrum/community/SC/forum/3/thread/psa-for-those-on-the-fence-about-flight-sticks
- Headtracking is absolute game changer for immersion and situational awareness
- TrackIR is excellent for headtracking and works in plenty of other simulation type games too.
- Tobii is reportedly excellent as well but I have not tested it personally.
- Your webcam can be used for headtracking too but it requires good lighting and 60fps camera to work nearly as well as dedicated trackers. OTOH it can be also used to make weird faces with your game avatar.
