##` G C, G Eb, F G`

You know that when you try too hard, it only makes it worse.

##` G C, G Eb, F G`

Working overtime and feeling kinks in your purse.

##`F,D F F,D/F# G `

Opening bank accounts; gathering large amounts.

##` Em C D Cm Daug;A7 `

Well, don't take a nickel for a dime. Don't waste your time with it. Don't waste your time with it.

##`. G C,G Eb,F G`

Don't stress too much, you'll only end up dead.

##` G C,G Eb7, F G`

Going double-dutch only gets you there ahead.

##` F,D F F,D/F# G `

Flipping when it counts; managing large amounts.

##` Em C D Cm Daug; A7 `

Shaking nickles, dimes… shaking good times.

##` G C,G Eb, F G `

Don't try too hard. You'll end up in the red.

##` G C,G Eb7, F G`

Instead, keep a nickel jar and hide it under your bed.

##` Eb7,F C / / / <tacet>`

Hide it under your bed…. instead….. you don't need the banks to kick the money away.

##` G C,G Eb7,F G`

Don't you find it inconvenient?

##` G C,G Am7 C7 D7,C7 G`

Don't you mind the disillusion, the disillusionment?

<Verse 2, same progression>

Wake up Sunday morning, having too much cash. Get the feeling to put away some of the stash. Bottles and bank machines; now your hands are clean…. of cash, nickels, dimes…. of having good times.

Stop sketching out, you know how it will end. There's nought to think about; I'm telling you as a friend. Do the dead cat bounce; feast on lost amounts. Of these nickel and dime affairs, who of them cares?

Don't try too hard, you'll end up in the red. Instead, keep a nickel jar and hide it under your bed. Hide it under your bed, instead. You don't need the banks to kick the money away.

Don't you find it inconvenient? Don't you mind the disillusion, the disillusionment?
