title Issue 4

issue

This week's issue was put together using a different approach: On Monday I created an Issue 4 note in Simplenote to which I added links as they came up. At the end of each day I spent ten minutes or so curating. I’m quite happy with the result. ONWARDS!

Insightful weblog post from the developer of Pedometer++: Interesting Lessons from Building a Pedometer. I downloaded it but you need iPhone 5S’ fancy new processor :(

An interview with Edward Snowden: “I don’t lose sleep because I’ve done what I feel I needed to do. It was the right thing to do and I’m not going to be afraid.” /via marco.org

“Tinie Tempah’s new iPhone app helps you lip-sync along to his latest album”. The video of it in action is quite entertaining.

How to buy great extra virgin olive oil by Jason Kottke follows on nicely from last week's issue.

Can toroid planets exist?: “It is not obvious that a toroid planet is stable” but it looks hella cool.

“thedaywefightback.js is a javascript snippet that automatically activates at midnight of February 11th and adds a banner to your site for 24 hours in support of thedaywefightback.org.”

I really enjoyed Naveen’s weblog post: What I love about ‘Her’. Shall certainly, definitely be checking out this motion picture.

One of the many scathing reviews of Dungeon Keeper for iOS. What’s particularly awful about this is that they’ve taken a cherished game from my childhood and completely bastardised it in the sleaziest way possible. Ugh.

Dead End Thrills is a website celebrating the passion and talent behind the world’s most exciting videogames. Some lovely captures /via bb.

My pal @negatendo and friends have officially released Put HTML! The idea? Delightful 1 megabyte limit web pages (for example). It’s also on GitHub. It’s very much built in the mindset of @torrez’s manifesto: How About Some Fucking Whimsy?

This Marty McFly t-shirt is truely excellent.

Gruber’s Microsoft, Past and Future is a long but brilliant post about (funnily enough) Microsoft that you’ve probably already read.

2 newly discovered subreddits this week: /r/showerthoughts and /r/shittyfoodporn.

Marvel has released an API: “The Marvel Comics API allows developers everywhere to access information about Marvel’s vast library of comics—from what’s coming up, to 70 years ago” /ty @johnbillion.

Reporter is a beautiful new app from infographic designer Nicholas Felton and friends: “Reporter is a new application for understanding the things you care about. With a few randomly timed surveys each day, Reporter can illuminate aspects of your life that might be otherwise unmeasurable.” I'm giving it a whirl for the week.

An excellent inaugural Knob Feel Awards. If you’re not familiar, Knob Feel is an excellent Tumblr that provides “reviews based purely on the feel of the knob” /ty @johnbillion.

The Nike Air Yeezy II "Red October" unexpectedly went on sale yesterday evening and sold out in 11 minutes! I still don't think they look half as good as the never-to-be-released original Air Yeezy red colourway. Also? The College Dropout er, dropped 10 years ago today!

The Government Digital Service has released a bunch of stats for gov.uk /via Benedict Evans.
