Room Talks

Room Talks

Okay so let's try this out.

I'm curating a list of potential speakers to give short (5-30 minute) talks on Google Hangouts (later exported to youtube) for the benefit of the room.

Think about it, if you feel like you could teach anyone in the room about anything (React, JS, Math, how to change your own engine oil, literally anything) please comment with what you could potentially speak on. Once a list is made we can (at your own leisure of course) start to actually schedule the talks and make this happen.

100% of your own good will, 50% because we are awesome (someone needs to do a talk on percentages for me).

COME ON GUYS/GALS DON'T LET ME DOWN!

Ohh, yea, I suppose it wouldn't hurt if you wanted to post a topic you would LOVE to learn about. Please no pestering individuals to do the talk, let them step up to do it.

I could do something dealing with webpack + react, or one individually for brevity.

I can do stuff like promises, or Rx or whatever.

Is ranting about things we don't like with reasons and better solutions allowed?

@awalgarg I don't see why not. Might not get many viewers ;)

I figure out of the things I know that would benefit other is mostly non-coding related things.

I could do a session on building a cat toy from a laser and an arduino, making pizza from scratch, setting up a shrimp jar (aquarium shit). idk. How to properly root a plant cutting? Anyone wanna know something I know?

@monners ooh, I like that.

@rlemon pizza sounds delicious

I dont know any technical stuff very well, but I teach fencing, so I could do that

@rlemon I'd definitely be interested in a talk on embedded systems. Arduinos, and otherwise.

I could do a 10 mins talk about introduction to canvas? Or about advanced canvas tips & tricks? Guess someone would be interested

I can do about Git. This is a great idea, the Java room has been holding these up for some time now and it's fairly successful.

Also, would love a talk about Rx (Benji or Zirak, I call upon thee!)

Benji needs to give his ng-conf talk but in English.

Would anyone be interested in learning how to cheat in Flash game (more than just Cheat Engine)?

If not, then how about very simple hacking around on Chromium source?

If not, how about some not-so-basic-but-simplified (yet hopefully interesting) Chemistry/electronics?

I know most people's technical interests; if it's room talks, maybe make them about the room members. I'd be interested in seeing your hobbies and so forth.

I love every idea on the list. Seriously, even if these are not a hit right now, the more we do and the more information we collect the better this could ultimately be.

Any ideas on a way to schedule the ideas? should we use room events? is Hangouts the preferred method of delivery considering the 10 person limit? If so should we have a 'draw seats' or other method for participation? (note: the idea is that we will also upload to a private or public youtube channel for future viewing) How about a 'request for talk on subject X' forum (not really forum platform, but you get the idea).

If we create a repo for the 'project' then we can better establish (via the wiki and issues) requests and a structured list of all talks, but if we took it to another platform...

open to discussion

@Madara 👍 for git.

There's a "Hangouts on Air" feature that has unlimited passive viewers (and saves the results to YouTube)

@Zirak hacking flash games sounds like an interesting topic :D

Let's get the ball rolling:

This Saturday (6/6/15) 1900 UTC I'll be broadcasting (via Hangouts on Air, thanks @SomeKittens), seems like you don't need a Google account to do that so it should be fine for everyone.

The topic will be one of the following:

  • Flash cheating, basic and advanced.
  • Recompile your own Chromium for greater glory.

I'll choose which one based on how prepared I am for it. Either should be awesome and you'll have lots of fun or else.

Two requests:

  1. Ping me if you want to attend at all; if too few people are interested there won't be much point (also say if you have a preferred topic).
  2. If you want to attend and the date isn't good, ping me ASAP (until Tuesday night or so) please so I can reschedule.

Talking about the devtools would be nice @Zirak , those topic sounds fine but Flash cheating sounds kind of basic.

@Zirak me for chromium talkz and sicrit dev tools stuff (not using dev tools directly, but customizing it from the inceptioned ones). super duper awesome funz.

@Zirak (@Madara) by hacking flash games you mean using that olde app to hijack execution, edit state and recompile stuff? (no not cheat engine). If so... I am not saying it's not inter... well, it's not interesting :( :P

@awalgarg, @benjamingr In what world is looking at a disassembly and editing a program's raw code to change its behaviour not interesting?
