Find, format, and mount an AWS Ephemeral NVMe disk within ec2 in user data
#!/usr/bin/env bash
###
## This mounts a (single) ephemral NVMe drive in an EC2 server.
## It's meant to be run once, within user-data
## For EBS drives (non-ephemeral storage), see: https://gist.github.com/jalaziz/c22c8464cb602bc2b8d0a339b013a9c4

Pulse Secure Client on Ubuntu Linux

Pulse Secure Client on Ubuntu Linux

by Danny Quah, June 2020 (revised Jan 2022)

Pulse Secure Client is a VPN client that allows secure connection to a Pulse Connect Secure SSL VPN gateway. Many universities use that latter for faculty, staff, and student access to their computer systems. However, because Linux comes in many different flavors, the standard Pulse Secure Client installer does not always run to completion. (For one, [UWO.ca][] suggests "PulseSecure's understanding of Linux package managers and distributions in general seems very limited.") The user is then either forced to use a Windows machine, somehow, or fail VPN access when traveling with their Linux notebook.

This Gist describes the steps I took to install Pulse Secure Client on my Ubuntu-based Linux machines, including a Pixelbook running GalliumOS 3.1 and Dell desktops running Ubuntu 18.04 and 20.04. Other writeups elsewhere that I've looked at describe the same problems I encountered, but were either out-dated, overly localised,

A quick, memorable way to initiate an "artisan tinker" session and play with variables.
<?php
function tinker(...$args) {
// Because there is no way of knowing what variable names
// the caller of this function used with the php run-time,
// we have to get clever. My solution is to peek at the
// stack trace, open up the file that called "tinker()"
// and parse out any variable names, so I can load
// them in the tinker shell and preserve their names.

Handy "chain()" helper method for making non-fluent classes/objects fluent.
<?php
function chain($object)
{
return new class ($object) {
protected $lastReturn = null;
public function __construct($object)
{
$this->wrapped = $object;
