How to use it (you need ffmpeg on your machine!):

  1. Download the file
  2. chmod a+x giffify.py
  3. (optionally) Add it to your PATH
  4. Use it! giffify.py myfile.mp4

We recommend using a -dh 500 for most portrait screencast usages (-dw 500 for landscape).

Will be better to have it inside a repo to create issues or something, Im getting

$ python giffify.py map.mp4

why?

Looks like you need to have ffmpeg installed locally.

New on 3/3/16:

  • You can now specify a start and end timestamp (or a start time and a duration) for the gif!
  • The script now checks for ffmpeg before running
  • IT TALKS TO YOU!!1!

Please look at the ffmpeg docs for format details.

Thanks again to @fourlastor for the help with Python :)

There's also once again a minimal port to bash of the script, if you don't want to depend on Python. Thanks to @fourlastor !
