Create a proxy server on an Amazon EC2 (VPC) instance

This will create a proxy server in whatever your availability zone your VPC is in. For me, that's us-east-1b. For you, that may be something different. Steps 10+ should more or less work regardless of your provider since those steps cover the setup and configuration of TinyProxy.

  1. Click the Launch Instance button.
  2. Choose Ubuntu Server 14.04 LTS (HVM), SSD Volume Type. This isn't strictly necessary. If you choose another OS, check its documentation for how to install new packages.
  3. On the Choose an Instance Type screen, select t2.micro. It's Free Tier eligible.
  4. Click the Next: ... buttons until you reach the Configure Security Group screen.
    • You may wish to reduce the amount of storage on the Add Storage screen. This is optional.
    • You may wish to add a tag on the Tag Instance screen. This is also optional.
  5. On the Configure Security Group screen:
  • Select Create a new security group.

Simple steps to start a Stellar Gateway

You can become your own gateway in two simple steps! Here we'll show how easy it is to issue your own currency on the Stellar network.

Extending trust & issuing credit

1: A user extends trust to your gateway account for a "maximum" amount of your currency. Remember, they're trusting you'll honor whatever your currency represents when they give it back to you.

$ curl -X POST https://test.stellar.org:9002  -d '

How to load MySQL time zone tables from Mac OS time zone files

The easiest way to load the Mysql Time Zone tables from your Mac OS time zone fields is via this command:

mysql_tzinfo_to_sql /usr/share/zoneinfo | mysql -u root mysql

However, on many systems like mine that will fail because some of the time zone information is incompatible with the database schema for the time zone tables.

Therefore, you'll want to load the time zone information into a text file and edit it to only include the time zones you need. (Or, attempt to find the data breaking the import.)

mysql_tzinfo_to_sql /usr/share/zoneinfo > zone_import.sql
outdated_gems = `gem outdated`
regex = %r((?<gem>[\w-]+) \((?<old>[\d\.]+) < (?<new>[\d\.]+)\))
gemfile = File.read("./Gemfile")
outdated_gems.each_line do |line|
data = line.match(regex)
gemfile.gsub!(%r(gem '#{data[:gem]}',(\s+)'[^']+'), "gem '#{data[:gem]}',\\1'#{data[:new]}'")
end
